Microsoft didn’t kept their end of bargain and stopped the Global Server before April 2008 (as they said they would end a game life cycle after 5 years, they decided to come short on Freelancer, not a nice move from them i might add).

Global Server being down Freelancer servers have problems keeping the number of players high, some of them are already closing, this is sad.

Even if the Global Server from Microsoft is down, players can join in many other ways:

1. Global Server Workaround and Freelancer Server List Patch (installer) connects you to the alternative Freelancer Global Server, same thing can be done using the .flmod file Freelancer List Server Patch Mod by using Freelancer Mod Manager which is included in FreelancerTools.rar (link is below).

1*. Or modify C:/Program Files/Microsoft Games/Freelancer/EXE/freelancer.ini
Replace
hostname = fllistserver.zone.msn.com; GUN server in Redmond (DNS entry)
With
;hostname = fllistserver.zone.msn.com; GUN server in Redmond (DNS entry)
hostname = gun.fllistserver.com; www.fllistserver.com

2. Freelancer Server Direct Connect Tool Run it and then connect to your favorite servers.

4. Other way is this: Local Disc/Program Files/Microsoft games/Freelancer/EXE/ here you find one file named “fldirectip”, run it … a window will appear and in empty box (IP address) write “217.91.32.64″ (this is IP for j4f server - each server has differnt IP address, so if you want to go on other server you have to know IP of server you want to join)… (Here you find some of them.) Then click Add Server, and after that click on Launch Freelancer… Go to Multiplayer — Internet and select the server with IP address you wrote… (this is available for all other servers).

5. Right click on your Freelancer shortcut and choose Properties, then Settings. Find Target box, there should be something like this:
“C:/Program Files/Microsoft Games/Freelancer/EXE/freelancer.exe”
edit that in this way:
“C:/Program Files/Microsoft Games/Freelancer/EXE/freelancer.exe” -s217.91.32.64:2302
(with space between …freelancer.exe” and -s)
Number after -s is IP address of server you want and after every IP address you must put :2302 now click Apply then Ok… Run Freelancer with that shortcut. Go to Multiplayer and choose LAN game. There will be server you want even you are not in LAN connection with it ^^
