His family said doctors at Johns Hopkins cancer center in Baltimore spotted the tumor early, during a routine screening, and that the prognosis for his recovery is good. The statement said Mr. Reid, 78, who was the Democratic leader in the Senate for more than a decade, is resting with his family and is in good spirits.

A former trial lawyer, Mr. Reid was first elected to the House of Representatives in 1982, before winning a Senate seat in 1986. He successfully ran to become Senate Democratic leader in 2004, succeeding Sen. Tom Daschle, who was defeated in his bid for re-election in South Dakota. Mr. Reid stepped down as the partys leader in 2015 after sustaining an injury to his eye in an exercise accident, and later that year announced he would retire from the Senate and not seek re-election in 2016. He was succeeded as Democratic leader by Sen. Chuck Schumer of New York.

Who here likes to feel lonely? Likely no one. Yet after some 20,000 people participated in a new nationwide survey published by Cigna, a global health service company, Americans are lonelier than ever, with almost 50 percent of those surveyed feeling left out or lonely.

Using the UCLA Loneliness Scale to compile scores, those who scored above a 43 were officially lonely, on a scale of 20 to 80. An astonishing 43 percent (thats 2 in in 5) Americans sometimes or always feel that their relationships are not meaningful, and that they are isolated from others. And 27 percent of Americans (thats one in four) rarely or never feel as though there are people who really understand them.

"Epigenetics is the science that connects lifestyle and its impact on aging," explains Smitha Rao, Vice President, Product Development and Regulatory Affairs at StriVectin. What is fundamentally ground-breaking about epigenetics, Rao says, is the ability to reverse or modify how your body ages by adopting positive lifestyle practices. Your environment and lifestyle choices can literally change how your genes work, in ways that can then be passed down genetically to your children.
