A novel nanofiber approach targeting atherosclerosis may rapidly reduce plaque burden, a mouse study suggested.

At 8 weeks of treatment with the nanofiber incorporating a liver X receptor agonist, plaques were 11% and 9% smaller by area in male and female mice, respectively, reported Neel Mansukhani, MD, of Northwestern University in Chicago, in a poster at the American Heart Association's Vascular Discovery: From Genes to Medicine Scientific Sessions in San Francisco.

T.J. Dillashaw: Yeah, man. We’d been trying to finalize that fight since earlier this year, and then Demetrius had shoulder surgery, so we had to wait a little bit longer, and now for them to say it’s not going to happen is a little frustrating. I’ve been on a diet since I won my belt. I didn’t take a break. Usually after a fight, you go off of your diet for a little bit and enjoy life. I stuck to it because I knew I had to bring my body mass down. I got into this sport because I love it, and because I love beating people up. I don’t like the politics of fighting, and trying to figure out who you’re going to fight and when. It’s definitely a little discouraging.

"People express PTSD and posttraumatic psychopathology in diverse ways. Diagnostic templates are all kind of an approximation of these responses. For this reason, trying to be particularly specific in the operational definition can possibly miss a large proportion of individuals with different symptom phenotypes. Homogeneity may be good for clinical research, but real-world individuals often have more varied responses," said Barbano.

Pseudoscience and skin care may always be inextricable from one another; ludicrous terms like "DNA repair" and "cellular rejuvenation" may continue to abound, and products that purport to be "clinically tested" may continue to go, well, untested. But epigenetics research has real potential to change the beauty industry for once, not just bandy around buzzwords that sound science-y but come from the brain of a shrewd executive. If we're really in the midst of skin care's golden age, then this might just be our magnetic compass, pointing us unerringly in the direction of ageless skin.
